A quick search for apps revealed that two (or more) games are already available under the name "xyloFUN"

My questions are ....

By the looks of it, none of the two publishers who use that name seem serious projects.

I will release a LOT of apps under that (or another) name and, unlike them, I have the URL reserved!

It's not too late and I can still use "Little Composers" but I would have preferred xyloFUN.

What do you think? Should I risk it and go ahead with xyloFUN or should I use Little Composers to be the first to use that name and publish all other apps under that name as well?
Will me, using xyloFUN, help those other guys sell their apps or will they help me sell mine?

What to do? As always, I'm thankful for your suggestions and advise :)

    Hi xyloFun,
You have been unlucky and should think about reserving you name on iTunes connect before you commit to a project and a URL. I think you have a few options, 1st change the name, 2nd contact the current owner of the name in itunes and explain and do a deal. However iTunes will not allow you to have the same name it will allow variations in the name like "xuloFUN adventures" etc but the variant owner might contact you requesting that you change the name as it would be confusing to his customers and Apple would likely agree.

In short I would change the name and learn the lesson mate.

    Regards

    Keith

    ok, that makes sense!

Can I reserve a name now? (So that this does't happen again?)

Wait a sec, are you talking about the app name or your publisher name?

Just because you searched up xylofun on the app store and an app named xylofun came up, that doesn't mean that the publisher name "xylofun" is taken

    Please clarify

i saw that someone published an app called xyloFUN ... actually two people did

I don't know what to do but I can live with "Little Composers" as the publisher ... Can I protect LittleComposers now .... i wonder?

    I still don't understand

You say that the app name xyloFUN is taken...and you want your publisher name to be displayed as xyloFUN. But app name and publisher name are two different things. Were you planning on naming your app xyloFUN, or your company name/publisher name xyloFUN? Two very different things, so xyloFUN for a publisher name may still be available for you.

I think he is concerned that he would have a company name and then some other company has an app with his company name. That may confuse people.

Ah, I see now...I misinterpreted it.

Well in that case I would say that it doesn't matter. If you have some real high quality apps under the name xyloFUN then they will still sell regardless of some other bad apps using the same app name.

But in the end I think you should go with Little Composers, just because it sounds so much more professional and simple.

    thanks guys!

yes, I was told to use little composers ...

a marketing expert told me that if someone heard about my stuff and then went home to find me on google, that chances would be low to dig up xylofun. But the likelihood of people remembering (and spelling) little composers is much higher so his advise was to register all domains and extensions that I can (which I have done) and then go with little composers.

I am now wondering if I can reserve that name with apple because until they review my first app, another 8 - 12 days will go by ....

I was surprised to see that someone used that name but ... life goes on :)
