Best way to develop graphics for a non-artist new to GameSalad?

Hi guys,

I am brand new to GameSalad and have zero experience developing graphics as well. Does anyone have any recommendations as to how to begin?

Ideas I'm looking for are: software suggestions, software tutorials or sources of both free and paid graphics.

Inkscape takes a bit of getting used to but it's free and comparable to Illustrator.
