Apple just called me - my app was released by mistake, will be removed

I got a call from an apple employee, that my Promo Dispenser app will be removed from the appstore, because it was released by mistake. It violates their rules.

He couldn't tell exactly what rules and how. He could only tell me that I should contact the advisory board. What I did.

Apple is a bunch of idiots.

Hahaha, you should contact Gizmodo and tell them the story ;)

I don't know, if it will work. I think so.

The app is a web based app really, so it should keep working.

If apple really pulls it off, we will spread it on cydia.

Contacting Gizmodo is a good idea. I wait for the reply from the advisory board and if they reject it, I will try to contact them.

I believe they probably pulled it because as it states codes are for reviewers no offense to your app it does the best job of dishing them out and asking for reviews but perhaps apple feels that it is just giving them to anybody and not just reviewers. Granted half the real reviewers out there don't even leave an iTunes review.
Perhaps they will change their minds and put it back in.

They can at least give you details or the courtesy of telling you HOW you could update your app in order for it to be accepted. Ridiculous.

How many downloads was this app getting?

    Sue them apples!!! :)

    It's not the big hit.
It had 1400 downloads on the first day, 830 the second day ant then when it disappeard from the first page avarage 100-150 per day.

The apple guy babbled something about promo codes can't be distributed and apps not listed except the official rss feed and so... he couldn't really explaine, why it is violating which rules. He also said something about affiliate rules.

I told them, that there are many such apps on iTunes, which list apps and resemble the appstore, like appshopper, but he couldn't say anything. He was just a minion.

I wrote the advisory boards all my arguments. We will see, what they say.

    That sucks.

Hope they back track and leave it on.

It is still on the appstore.

    I don't understand...

If they want to remove, then they should remove. Or release the update... but telling me, it will be removed and then letting it on, but rejecting the update is just stupid.

I think, apple emploeyees have to be sadistic, when they apply for the job.
How cruel is this? Telling you, it will be removed, but then not removing, just letting you stew in your own juice...

What is the game about? curious to try it :)
  • HunnenkoenigHunnenkoenig Member Posts: 1,173
    It's not a game.
It is a tool to get promo codes from developers.

Just search for Promo Dispenser on iTunes.
    Still there.

I don't know, if it is related, but suddenly I can't access my sales trends on iTunes Connect.
It says, it is being set up and I have to come back after 24 hours.

    I didn't do anything...

In my contract section there was a setup button for paid applications. I clicked it and added myself as legal and whatnot personal, now the setup button went away, but I am sure I have already done this years ago.

yes mine is doing the same thing at the moment! did clicking the button then allow you access?
  • HunnenkoenigHunnenkoenig Member Posts: 1,173
It is working now with iTunes.

I did click the set up button and added myself again as a contact person.

    Now it works normally again.

I heared from other developers, that they have apps on the appstore, which violate the guidelines (at least Apple says so), but remain on the appstore. However these apps can't be updated. All updates will be rejected.

    How stupid is that?

It seems, Promo Dispenser has the same destiny, because it is still on the appstore, but the update was rejected.

    The sad day arrived.
Promo Dispenser was removed from the appstore.

Today I will upload it again and again and again as long as they reject it.

I also contacted Gizmodo. We will see if they are interested...
