What do you think? - Character for New Game -

Here's my main protagonist in my upcoming game. I spent a bit of time working on him last night and would like to know what you guys as the GS community think :D

One thing I noticed about some popular app icons *angry birds, RBOG, trainyard, doodle jump, cut the rope* is that they are typically looking/pointing to the right or the bottom right. I'm guessing this is a device to lead the viewers eye towards the 'buy' button when in the appstore?

    I like it with one exception the mouth looks like it is not part of the icon, the eyes and the mouth are almost like on two different faces, maybe move the mouth to the right, have is sync up with the mouth a bit more.

    Maybe I also need to put shading on the mouth like I did for the eyes also O_o haha I can't believe I missed that! I'll mess around with the placement in a bit! Thanks :D

    I like it, the shading for the mouth would definitely help, also you might want to make the tails for the bandanna more pronounced... the thin lines and odd pacman shape to them doesn't read great.

    i love it! do the shading thing to the mouth and thicker line for the bandana and post the result..

    The character looks AWESOME! Since my favorite color has always been Orange since a little kid, i especially loved him. Would you mind if i took a copy of the picture to edit and repost it?

    Thanks for all the feedback guys, I really appreciate it :D Pretty much all that's been done is the teeth have been shaded and the headband tie redone to be more bold.

    What do you mean by this? I mean you can download it, but I wouldn't really like it if you were to take it and use it in your own productions :/

    oh, i apologize if i was unclear. I would never dream of taking your work and use it in mine. What i meant was if you would mind if i downloaded the image and changed it a little and reposted it. The only reason i would do this would be for a: practice, and b: some people before me suggested changing a few things, and i thought i'd try it. If you don't want me too, that's fine

    oh no! THAT LOOKS ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE MY CHARACTER FOR MY GAME! WHATS YOUR GAME LIKE??? What do u do in it? I hope its not like mine...

    Maybe try a basic shape more along these lines for the tie.

    @ BramHoskin: It's a platformer of sorts, a concept that I've dreamt of since middle school :3

    @ ReM: Oh snap, I might have to take a look at that... The tie would be bigger, I just boxed myself in with the 512x512 limits. If I had to guess what I'd do with infinite space, I'd probably make it a long tie, but that'll be a little more difficult to implement within GS -_-"

    Yeah, don't let the power of 2 thing totally dictate your art. If you have to give up a little bit of space for something that helps sell the idea it's well worth it. I suppose if you wanted some sort of epic tie you could make it a separate actor. =)

    thanks, i'm trying to get ideas for a nice, easy, simple game. i just joined today so i'm still getting the hang of things, but the one thing i do like about the character is the geometric side to it. everything is squares and circles, and coming from an artistic/ engineering background, i love how it's got complexity in it's simplicity. =)

    @ Rem: yeah that's the solution I've thought of, but I tried the same thing back when I was using GameMaker in junior high. The problem was that the tie actor lagged behind the main actor. I haven't tried it within GS yet, but I can't see it being much better :/

    But still, can't know until ya try right x]

    I'm using a constraint to attach my characters arm to his body since I want the arm to move separately. I also put an interpolate on the arm and set it to ease in and out so when the character is walking it is moving around slightly so it doesn't look so static. It also kept me from adding a bunch of memory eating animation =). Anyways, the constraint part seems to work fine incase you decide to give it a shot.

    I like it, but what is up with the highlights in the eyes? Seems like the light is coming from the right, but the catch light (reflection) in the eyes are on the left.

    Haha I'm just joking, what I'm really trying to get at is you should remove the graphic from the forums before someone steals it lol

    I mean who wouldn't want to steal that adorable creature!
