I need help deciding which view of the scope I should go with for my game.

Now here is my dilemma. Since Gs does not have a magnify attribute where just the area in the scope can be magnified, I must magnify the whole background image you see. This is why my original thinking was to use the black filling to give the impression that just the area of the scope was magnified.

I realized that the full black scope makes it difficult to find the target, so I was thinking I could have 2 solutions to that issue.

#1 was to change the scope to the 2nd image you see here and live with players being able to see the whole screen zoomed in.

#2 was to make the player constantly zooming in and out with the 1st image to acquire the location of the new target. Possibly do this by making the scope zoom out after they fire a shot.

I am looking to the forum here to get some feedback on what they think the better solution is.

I like the 1st one. If you can't find your target, it makes the game more challenging, which is good!

well the player will be able to zoom in and out.

I like the idea of the first one because it hides the magnify flaw that will be in the game.

I would love to hear what more people think

(keep in mind the images are not zoomed in for these examples)

The second one is what is commonly used in the more successful shooters on the iPhone and iPad, where the user can see the whole background zoomed in.

That isn't an opinion; I like both styles. Just something to consider if you were worried about how it looked with the whole scene zoomed :)

PS - Looks like it will be a good game!

@ Cardinal you just gave me an idea!

Right now I have the 2nd scope image size the same as the background, but it is transparent. Im going to test and see if I can add an effect like your blurring idea to the outside of the image and see if it will overlay and act as a filter for the background.

If this works out I think I'm gonna have to take you out for a nice seafood dinner.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I think we have a winner. I took the great advice from Cardinal and I have created a fusion of the two ideas. This is not the final concept yet, but this is what I think will work best and i'd love to hear from the rest of you
