Free 3D Stuff - Some Work Required (Daz 3D)

I've been scouring the net and accumulating gigabytes of free-to-use resources and in case it'll benefit anyone here, I'll post them in various threads.

This one is for 3D graphics. They have regular freebie offers in their online shops so it benefits going in early and getting a free account. No credit card declaration required.

It looks like a really cool program but i got one question. how would i get that onto gamesalad i dont get how thats going to work.

While you can't (yet? :-) ) load a 3D file format into GS, you can render 3D content to make 2D animations and still images. Advantages of this opposed to drawing them is that you can then render from any angle, and reuse the model that way.

Another great tool is eRains Swift 3D. You can easily export a series of PNG images for a 3D object that can then be animated in GameSalad.

It is only legal to use rendered content with DAZ. It is a great way to get content though. Although the program is free, you really need to spend a few hundred on plugins and content to make it usable.

@Matt - yeah, I've been using an old version of Swift 3D for a while now - it's how I made the graphics for an upcoming game.

Still, I actually prefer Daz Studio - just because there's a lot of variety in the models you can get and use, and it's easier for me to pose human figures too.

similiar program to Daz is 'Poser'(but i think better. Maybe now Daz have similiar options but when i was using it, Poser have better shader system, hdr lighting, morph targets etc - and all with very easy interface.) - you can use Daz models like any other stuff from net (lots of freebie on renderosity.com)

You're welcome, QS! I hope I can bring in more leads to good resources for all of us. I've been doing it for my own projects and I really think all these resources need to find more good hands. Just imagine the exponential possibilities then!

So Poser have a better lightning\rendering? Cause lightning\rendering is the only thing a really hate in Daz 3d.

Bought Reality, for better render quality, Will see what it can do when I get home.

I've been using Bryce since it first came out in 1994. It's really quite a deep app once you get past the basics. And now being able to import objects from the sweet app sculptris makes it even more versatile.
