Strange mail "Apple Marketing Opportunity"

touchcreamtouchcream Member Posts: 63
I everyone, I just received a mail from "Apple" about my app (I currently only have one app) but it sounds fake, I don't know why, maybe I'm just too suspicious. Does anyone ever received this mail ?
Hi Arthur,

I was given your contact details by xxxxx xxxxx from Apple Worldwide Developer Relations, who is the partnership manager for your region.
Theodore here from Apple Worldwide Developer Relations in London. My colleagues in iTunes are interested in possibly promoting your app on the App Store but we need some additional art assets. If you view the App Store on a computer or iPhone/iPod touch you will see examples of the use of the graphic assets as promotional elements. Please note that while you can suggest creative direction, our designers will choose the final design that works best for the App Store on device and computer.

Please note: Deadline for these materials is Wednesday, September 8th, 04:00PM GMT

Please send the file zipped via email in this naming format: DEVNAME - APPNAME.zip (For example: Apple - Keynote.zip) The unzipped file should contain a folder using the same naming convention as the zip file, please clearly mark (using sub-folders) any variations in the title treatments/backgrounds. For example, if the art has been localized for German, French or Japanese.

There are two files that need to be created following the specification below:

Title Treatment
The title treatment / logo for the application should be simple and easy to read when scaled down to a small size. Please limit tag or bylines if they are not legible at small scale.
Vector .eps, .ai or minimum 600 x 600 px transparent .psd or .tif

Background Image
The background image, texture, color or gradient should correspond to the application or complement the title treatment. It may include elements of the application itself, but should not be or include screenshots.
900 x 530 px layered .psd

If necessary, please provide a document with any brand guidelines or legal requirements that detail any constraints on use of the imagery. Also ensure you have the legal rights and clearances to all the images you provide. Providing assets does not guarantee that the App will be featured, iTunes editorial team decides when, where and how to use the assets as promotional elements, so please check the App Store on Friday as this is when new content is featured.

Please let me know when you can deliver the art, thanks!
Regards-

That actually looks pretty legit. That means they want to feature you as one of the "apps of the week" or something like that! Good job!

That would be just AWESOME. The deadline is tomorrow so I'll update this thread soon with good or bad news ... ^

They're not asking for any fees, so why not give it a shot?

Haha I was wondering that as well, surely you can tell if it's legit by the email address it was sent from?

    @RH : an xxxxx@apple.com mail

That email is real. I got the same one. Congratulations!

They asked for my artwork for Stunt Squirrels! HD and made what is called a 'tile'. It was a button that stayed on the homepage of the iPad Games section for a couple of weeks. There were only four tiles on the Games page and Stunt Squirrels! was one of them. It definitely helps sales.

Of course, they may or may not do anything with your artwork. But that email is the first step to being 'in' with Apple.

Yes, that email is from Apple's Marketing department, I received a very similar one a month ago for one of my apps, it doesn't guarantee getting a tile or other treatment, but sounds like you will definitely be getting featured nonetheless, so great job!!

@FMG @butterbean : thanks for your replies but I won't get too excited for now. As we say in France "Don't sell the bearskin before killing him" (Ne vends pas la peau de l'ours avant de l'avoir tué) ^^

    AHAH EPIC FAIL !

Apple just sent me an email telling me that the previous mail ... was a mistake. BUT they took a look at Zombie Survivor and selected it anyway. I'm so happy right now and crossing fingers :p
